IRIS (International Railway Industry Standard)

IRIS is a standard developed by UNIFE with the help of OEMs system integrators and operators. The aim of IRIS is to increase the quality and reliability of rolling stock produced through the improvement of the entire supply chain. IRIS is designed on similar quality standards already in the aerospace and automotive industries and whose aim objective is to avoid multiple business management system auditing and therefore increase in cost efficiency. By using approved and independent certification bodies and recognizes industries objectivity and transparency are guaranteed. The individual management system will be replaced by the IRIS Certificate. For the railway industry IRIS is the international sector specific standard which is designed with the motive of providing the better quality and safety. It also aims at reducing the cost and complexity. IRIS Certification is usually required by the rail industries or rail manufacturers. An initiative led by the Union of the European Railway Industries (UNIFE), IRIS is based on the ISO 9001 quality management standard with the addition of rail specific requirements. It was created to increase the competition and to ensure the high quality standards.
