FSSAI


The FSSAI has been established under the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006. The FSSAI (Food Safety and Standards Authority of India) is the agency of Ministry of Health & Family Welfare, Government of India. It has the responsibility of protecting and promoting public health through the regulation and supervision of food safety. The FSSAI was established to ensure the safety and quality of food which is to be consumed by the consumers including the process of storage, distribution, sale and import.

FSSAI is applicable to the following sectors:

  1. Hotels,
  2. Food Chains,
  3. Raw Material Suppliers
  4. Food Importers and Exporters
  5. Restaurants,
  6. Packaged Food Manufacturers,
  7. Food Sellers and Re-sellers,
  8. Canteens in Corporate Companies, Schools, Colleges, Hospitals, Government Institutions,

FSSAI has been created for laying down science based standards for articles of food. FSSAI can be used by anyone who manufactures, sells, serves, stores, transports, distributes, supplies, imports food or beverage.
